Gucci

As an immigrant hotel worker in Paris and later London in the early 1900’s, young Guccio Gucci was impressed with the luxurious luggage he noticed being used by sophisticated guests while staying at the Savoy Hotel. Before departing, Gucci visited the manufacturer, H.J. Cave & Sons to learn more. Upon his return to his native city, Florence, one distinguished for high-end materials and skilled artisans, he established a shop in 1920; selling fine leather goods with classic styling. Together with three of his sons, Aldo, Vasco, and Rodolfo, Gucci expanded the company to include stores in Milan and Rome. Watches, jewelry, ties, and eyewear were then added to the company’s product lines. In 1964, a particularly iconic touch was created in the form of a double-G logo used for belt buckles and other accessory decorations.
